We won’t name names this month — to protect the not-so-innocent — but a client whose backup automation had been disabled proceeded to make some website adjustments and updates without first backing up the live site.
He even blew threw a handful of “Stop! Go Back!” warning screens on his way to creating a smoking wreckage of his website.
Fortunately, we had a copy of the website coding. It was dated, but we were able to restore it and bring it back up to speed. The site data was also intact, though the database structure was fried. Recreating it took some doing, but ultimately the site is back up and better than ever. (Might as well address some weaknesses if you’re investing the time …)
Andigo is here and ready to help you with recovery from disasters like this, but we’d much rather work with you to prevent small issues from becoming big problems. Backups, regular updates, and a clear understanding of what is and is not “user serviceable” on your website should all be part of your plan.
